Strong Password Generator

Generate strong, truly random passwords in your browser. Choose the length and character types, watch the strength meter, and copy with one click. Nothing is sent to a server — the password exists only on your screen.

What makes a password strong?

Length beats cleverness. A random 16-character password from this generator is far stronger than a short password full of symbols, because every extra character multiplies the number of guesses an attacker would need. Turn on all four character types and aim for the Strong or Excellent zone.

Use a different password for every account, and store them in a password manager instead of your memory. And if you are building a website, remember your side of the bargain too: never store user passwords as plain text or Base64 — hash them. Our tutorial on hashing passwords in PHP shows the right way with password_hash().

This generator uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) — the same quality of randomness operating systems use — not the predictable Math.random().

Frequently Asked Questions

Are passwords from this tool saved anywhere?

No. Generation happens entirely in your browser and nothing is transmitted or stored. Once you close the tab, the password is gone unless you copied it.

How long should my password be?

At least 14–16 characters for important accounts. With a password manager remembering them for you, longer costs you nothing.

Should a website store passwords with Base64 or MD5?

Never. Websites must store passwords with a slow, salted one-way hash like bcrypt. Base64 is reversible by anyone and MD5 is broken for password use.
